DAVIE PROVAN has never been a big fan of this Celtic board, but this time I don’t think Celtic fans will disagree with what the former Celt is saying.

His on-air rant for Go Radio pointed the finger at the board of directors for their woeful handling of the club over the past 18 months. Letting the team decline so badly and not having the team well prepared for their Champions League qualifiers.

Celtic have been put out by another side in the Champions League who they really should have got past. We have bigger and better resources – but the mismanagement at board level has resulted in putting Celtic years behind where they should be.

You have to take the good with the bad but not when the bad is self inflicted nonsense like we’ve seen. Not removing Neil Lennon when he should have been dismissed, allowing Eddie Howe to lead us along without signing a deal then going at a crawls pace when Ange comes in and we need players through the door.

Davie Provan doesn’t miss with his assessment.

  1. A managed decline. Totally done on purpose. No keeper and no defence. The board don’t care as they have season ticket renewal money. Gtf Desmond and Bankier and all the rest of the charlatans

  2. Absolutely, it’s the boards fault, as they have been nothing short of negligent in their running of the club.
They should hang their heads in shame, but I doubt that they will, and I just feel sorry for Ange.

  3. Also, a sell Eddie at any cost from the board attitude doesn’t help.
We can’t have our bank(i)er subbed in a 1st round qualifier now can we?!?
A fit Jamsie is worth two French Eddies.
I’m sorry, but you can say what you want about ‘tthe hand he’s been dealt’, but they brought on fresh players just before the 90, and it gave them a few fresh legs in their team, Ange persisted with his starting II, with the exception of bringing on Jamsie, who if anywhere near fit should have been on at H/T, right up till almost the 90!
No man management, no plan to relieve players, who may not have been exhausted, but not at their best.
Changes, fresh legs were needed before the 90.
French Eddie was a man down.

  4. Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell are the men most responsible for our decline.
If Lawwell had worked as hard ensuring we had a squad of quality players as he did securing a salary increase by a factor of 10 over his tenure ( not discounting his shocking bonus payments ), then we would not be in this position.

He did not increase our turnover at all during his 17 years in charge. He inherited a turnover of £69 million 2003/04 and in 2020 it was £70 million. Just to keep pace with inflation it should have been in the region of £98 million. His average turnover was £68.6 million over his17 years. Our CoE would have been sacked in any other industry.

Inherited a team including Mjallby, Balde, Valgaeren, Thompson, Lambert, Lennon, Petrov, Sutton, and Larsson and left us with the worst squad of players in decades. Yes he certainly earned his bonus of £2.5 million in 2019!

  5. Unless the supporters and financial advisers find a way to REMOVE the current Board, the club will gradually disappear from European competition and struggle to win ANY domestic trophies, I certainly Don’t have the answer, but I.m hoping there.s people out there who care enough about our future to organize a sort of buy out and relieve the current board from CFC, asap or we could witness the end of the club “
