VASILIS BARKAS had a terrible time last season for Celtic but it looks like he’s finally finding his feet in a Celtic jersey.

The Hoops goalkeeper got the first half against Preston on Saturday evening at Celtic Park and pulled off some good saves as well as playing high up the field in a sweeper type role.

Barkas kept a clean sheet while Scott Bain conceded a penalty in the second half.

Celtic fans were critical of Barkas last season, but he was in and out of the side under Neil Lennon who never really trusted the Greek player to do his job.

New boss, Ange Postecoglou has given the goalkeeper a lot of confidence since coming in and we’d be surprised if Barkas didn’t start the Champions League qualifier on Tuesday.

A lot of fans agree that we’re starting to see much more of the goalkeeper.

Ange will have to decide if Barkas is good enough to be number one before the transfer window closes. We don’t want to be in a situation like last season, if he deems neither good enough, the club will have to dip into the market.

  1. The bar is obviously set very low. He made two saves any average goalie would be expected to make. Uroghide (sp?) is hopeless and will disappear quickly. The whole defence is a shambles. Very weak. Ajeti is a lazy player of limited ability. He somehow duped an agent to get him a transfer to an EPL club (they will buy anyone, half the time managers don’t even see the player before he is signed. More money than sense.) That means a player can get three quick transfers as they are found out at every level before ending up in the French 3rd division. Hopefully Ange is transfer listing him as we speak. The new Israeli only got 15 minutes so can’t tell, initial thoughts are that he could be good or just another Klymala. But we are in trouble for the qualifier and for the start of the League. Ange looks as if he is distraught.
