SPFL chief, NEIL DONCASTER, has hit back at the notion Sky Sports should make this weekend’s Glasgow Derby, free to air.

First minister, Nicola Sturgeon, backed the calls on Thursday, hoping the broadcaster would do this to encourage people to stay out in their homes and not head out or the game to another household.

All bars in the West of Scotland are closed at the moment so there will be no swell of supporters heading into town to watch the game with fans being locked out of Celtic Park altogether.

Asked if he believed the idea could work or if Sky should be receptive to the idea of throwing a freebie out for the Glasgow Derby, Doncaster couldn’t have been more clear:

“We saw the comments that the game should be given away for free and we agree with Sky that it wouldn’t be a reasonable thing to ask when they’ve invested so much in the product and in Scottish football.” Doncaster stated to Record Sport.

“Ultimately Sky have invested well over £125million for the next four seasons, as well as this season in Scottish football, and they’ve bought the rights on an exclusive basis with a view to people subscribing for their services. I think it’s unreasonable that Sky give those crown jewels away.”

The two Glagow clubs go to battle on Saturday with a place at the top of the table up for grabs.

Neil Lennon has had little time to prepare for the game and things haven’t been ideal with so many players out on international duty – we had a scenario where three players have caught the virus and one is isolating because they’ve been around a positive case.

If Celtic do win on Saturday, it will be against the back drop of the most bizarre circumstances we’ve had for a Glasgow Derby in the modern day.

  1. Anywhere on this planet you can see the Derby. As long as you have some sort of interweb and a very nice streeming person to supply it. SO DON’T COYBIG BLOCK US.
