Many Celtic fans thought Stuart Armstrong signing up for another three or four years was as inevitable as Celtic’s latest title victory but it’s caught many off guard that he’s yet to sign a deal.

Today, Brendan Rodgers spoke briefly about the protracted negotiations and admitted that Stuart’s agent has not been as forthcoming as he’d hoped.

“I believe he wants to stay. His Agent needs to come forward. It’s unsettling for player longer it goes on.”

With the player in the last year of his contract, he could start to talk to clubs as early as January. This would compel Celtic to look at all options on the table before the August transfer deadline.

With many English Premier League sides interested in taking the galvanised midfielder down south. This is what’s thought to be prompting his agent to be coy over a new deal with the Scottish Champions.

The longer it drags on the more likely a summer exit will be on the cards. Much like the similar situation that Joe Ledley was in under Neil Lennon, with the club accepting a late bid for the player after negotiations had met an impasse.

We hope the player himself will drive this deal home.

  1. He’s a smart enough bhoy to know you don’t try and hold Celtic to ransom, it’s a stupid bhoy who thinks that. Many have tried and been shown the door. He’ll never get what he has now. Champions league, ten in a row, 3 trophies a season. Lost because of greedy agent. SHAMEFUL ! Hail Hail

  2. Plucked from let midfield obscurity. Transformed into genuine article in an environment where he is loved and cherished. Bye, bye Stuart. Thanks for the brief memories. All we wanted was for you to keep improving and retire a very, very wealthy man.

  3. I fully understand the greedy self centered agents thinking only of themselves, turning the heads of the not so smart players. But Stuart Armstrong is seemingly highly intelligent. He should know better.
It might be time to suggest to his greedy wee scumbag agent to go forth and multiply.

  4. the boy has had a great season under Brendan, just ONE great season,he has the potential to have many more, I like him as a player, but he’s playing a very dangerous game here, if as has been mentioned in circles in England that his agent is trying to punt him to the highest bidder, as its rumoured, and this tale is getting stronger by the day, then he needs to be honest with the club, and himself, just say no thanks, i’m off for £70,000 a week, if he goes now the club will get a few million, I just hope if he does leave he doesn’t become a one trick pony, as I said before, the boy has had just ONE great season, and he’s not a legend by any means, hail hail

  5. Needs another season or 2 playing at the same level he did there, cany have 1good season and decide tae fuk off.Big mistake on his behalf if he leaves. And the way Brendan has brought him on to a game and aye he’s playing class but this contract dragging on is pish,if he’s no there for the jersey just dough cash in while we can, just do the right thing

  6. He’s like many a player .He ‘ll regret it if he leaves. Most players that leave Celtic regret it big time. So Stuart be sensible and dont get turned by the promise of big bucks and two thirds of the season sitting on the bench. Sign the contract Stuart and sack the agent if necessary.

  7. Look an agent is there so serve the player not the other way around. If he does want to stay then he tells his agent. No agent has a strangle hold on our club. If the agent is pulling the strings, Armstrong should be told to sign or do one.
I think we should sell him, end of. If he wants to stay, he signs, if not he’s off. Simple.

  8. I don’t think any of us want to see Stuart go…but he needs to remember when you play for a club like Celtic no matter what the name is on the back of the shirt it will never be bigger than the badge on the front…if he wants to go to England then sell him now and use the money towards getting wee paddy back??HH☘️

  9. Better players than him have come and gone,,, and Celtic are still winning trophies,, I support the club for what it stands for and for the way they try to play attractive football,, if he had left this time last season who would have really cared as he was only a bit part player the season before,,, thanks for your service Stuart and goodluck in the land of obscurity… Bye . bye.!!!

  10. He needs to remember Celtic have put him on a platform. Fed up with players using Celtic as a pivot. If you don’t want to be at Celtic then go we have plenty more midfielders in Rodgers we trust

  11. People on here as if its him holding the club to randsom, it’s not. Its the agent trying to get a richer deal out of it. He knows he’s good enough to go down south but i would bet stuart wants to stay. Stay get a new deal then sack the agent when he can. ynwa HH

  12. Sorry to lose him. It depends what drives you. If it is money then he will go.He will not achieve the success elsewhere

  13. Really rate the guy and would love him to stay but if he’s wanting to go then punt him ASAP!! None of this hangin about till a week or 2 before the window closes! This has been dragging on for months now and still nothing.good player but he’s had one full season at the top of his game.weve seen Henrik wanyama VVD petrov leave, all far Better players! put him up for sale and move on,bring in somebody who actually wants to commit to the club!

  14. Sell him now. He is likely to leave on a Bosman and Celtic will get nothing. His agent has bad-mouthed Peter Lawwell in the past and Brendan’s comments suggest he is not talking to the club. Only can be that he is running his contract down.

Sell him and if he doesn’t agree to go then send him to the Development squad. Let this go and you will have a queue of players leaving on Bosmans.

  15. If he wants to go cheerio. First third of last season didne think he was good enough. Had a great spell there after. Bank the money and invest it in wee Paddy Roberts , his fee could triple in a couple of years as I believe he is the best young winger in the country !! Also believe Teddy Bishop is worth a punt.
