Celtic have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ for the transfer of Canadian defender Alistair Johnston, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Since the news came to the surface on Wednesday, reports from Canada and the US have been very consistent when it comes to Celtic’s interest.

The right back is currently at the World Cup at present and will go up against Celtic’s current right back Josip Juranovic when Canada take on Croatia.

Celtic Target Alistair Johnston

A verbal agreement being reached is significant, especially considering there’s been no real news about the future of Josip Juranovic. You’d have to imagine Celtic know more than they’re letting on if they’re this far down the line with Montreal over the transfer.

Ange Postecoglou told Celtic fans before the World Cup break to brace themselves for Celtic exits in January if the right bids come their way.

Juranovic has been linked with a Celtic exit for over a year. It’s quite remarkable considering he’s only been with us 18 months.

The Hoops have already signed Yuki Kobayashi who will be registered in the new year. Is Johnston the next player on his way?
