Celtic striker Adam Idah made a crucial impact for the Republic of Ireland on Sunday night, scoring an 85th-minute goal that sealed their UEFA Nations League playoff victory over Bulgaria.

Coming off the bench in the 66th minute, Idah found the net to make it 2-1 on the night, extending Ireland’s aggregate lead to 4-2 and ensuring they avoid relegation from League B.

The late contribution underlines his ability to produce in key moments, despite a mixed run of form at club level this season. Since making the move to Celtic, Idah has shown flashes of quality but has been criticised for not being the talisman now Kyogo has left the building.

With Daizen Maeda currently leading the line, the Irishman has had to make the most of limited opportunities. Maeda’s energetic displays and consistent goal contributions have made him a key figure for Celrix, while Idah has often been called upon from the bench or rotated into the starting eleven.

Idah will return to Lennoxtown this week buoyed by his international success and looking to make an impact as Celtic push towards another SPFL title. The Hoops remain firmly in the hunt for a domestic treble, having already secured the League Cup.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping Idah’s late heroics for Ireland can boost his confidence as Celtic enter the final stretch of the campaign.
