Celtic supporters once again defied SPFL warnings about the use of pyrotechnics, with a large-scale display lighting up the away end at Dens Park ahead of their 3-3 draw with Dundee.

As the teams emerged from the tunnel for the Scottish Premiership match, flares were ignited by the travelling support, filling the air with smoke and creating a striking visual scene. Although the smoke momentarily drifted across the pitch, it did not delay the scheduled kick-off time.

The incident comes as Celtic remain under investigation by the SPFL for the use of pyrotechnic devices at recent high-profile matches.

The governing body launched disciplinary proceedings after delays caused by flares during both the Premier Sports Cup semi-final and final earlier this season.

The SPFL has been cracking down on the use of pyrotechnics in Scottish football, citing safety concerns for players, staff, and supporters, as well as the potential impact on match schedules. Clubs have been warned they could face severe sanctions if such incidents persist.

And despite string statements from the governing bodies and Brendan Rodgers’ warnings, Celtic fans have chosen to continue lighting up the stands.

While the SPFL’s investigation looms, Celtic fans have continued to use pyrotechnics as part of their matchday atmosphere despite the risk of further action against the club.

The governing body is likely to take a dim view of the latest incident, adding further fuel to the ongoing scrutiny of Celtic’s travelling fanbase.

While the pyro display may draw headlines off the field, Brendan Rodgers will undoubtedly be more focused on addressing his team’s defensive frailties following their disappointing 3-3 draw with Dundee. Celtic were forced to rely on a stoppage-time penalty from Arne Engels to rescue a point in a match that saw the league leaders twice throw away a lead.

The pyrotechnic display, while controversial, is unlikely to distract from the bigger issues Celtic must address as they continue their pursuit of another Scottish Premiership title. However, the club will be wary of potential repercussions from the SPFL as they look to balance their on-field success with the conduct of their supporters off the pitch.

For now, Celtic’s lead at the top of the table remains commanding, but both the SPFL and UEFA will be keeping a close eye on the actions of their fanbase in upcoming fixtures.
