Airdrie might not be the conventional place to look when you’re scouting new players but Celtic have been keeping an eye on the progress of Thomas Robert.
Rober is the son of former Newcastle star, Laurent Robert and has been plying his trade with Airdrie this season after his shock move to Scotland.
The move might have proven to be a masterstroke after he rejected a new contract at Montpellier. It’s not just Celtic who have been scouting him, a whole host of Scottish clubs have been keeping tabs on the midfielder.
Thomas is only on a one-year deal with Airdrie and would be free to talk to any clubs in January. If any club wanted him through the door straight away, a fee would have to be paid.
Airdrie Boss, Ian Murray has told SunSport, bids for his player aren’t far away.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if we have a fight to keep him. Thomas has done really, really well.
“He showed his class again against Clyde with the corner kick, but it wasn’t just that, in the first half he was excellent, his touches on the ball, his movement, his timing in the releasing of the ball, the way he picked up space, was excellent.
“We’ve had loads of clubs looking at him, a few of them were pretty impressed.
“Were they impressed enough to make a bid, I’m not sure, but I think there are a couple who are not too far away from that.”
Celtic are looking for a right sided midfielder but it would be safe to say they don’t see Thomas coming in and making the position his own straight away. With James Forrest not due back until February, there’s space for someone to come in and get a run of games in this position.
The player scored straight from a corner this week.
