Celtic women pulled a result from nowhere on Wednesday evening against their Glasgow rivals Rangers.

The game was moved to Celtic Park from the Hoops regular home pitch at K-Park Training academy and it inspired them to victory.

Rangers Women had most of the play and hit the bar on several occasions.

The Ghirls defended resolutely and hoped for a break. As the second half wore on it looked like Rangers would find the breakthrough.

Enter Mariah Lee.

The number seven came on gave Celtic a bit of life up front. Her pace caused Rangers problems as soon as she came on.

Celtic would then take the lead on the 80th minute when Lee was sent racing through with the keeper charging out.

Many are saying this goal has a striking resemblance to Samaras’s back at Ibrox all those years ago.

Celtic would see the game out from there. The Ghirls throwing theme selves at everything to deny an equaliser and take all three points in a 1-0 victory on the night.

The Hoops were five points behind Rangers before tonight, they are now hot on their heels. But they’ll need to also chase down Glasgow City.

Well done to Fran and the ghirls.
