Celtic have been suffering for a whole year without a number one goalkeeper. Joe Hart looks to be steadying the ship now and hopefully is a goalkeeper who is going to win us some points down the line.

Barkas and Bain haven’t been good enough and we’ve rarely seen either keeper make match winning saves during their time in goals.

The clamour and the narrative last season and at the start of this season was Craig Gordon was the answer for Celtic and the Hoops should try and re-sign him.

Craig was a great shot stopper at times but because Celtic have suffered terribly in the goalkeeping department – I think many supporters have forgotten Craig Gordon had some debilitating deficiencies.

Kyogo’s goal on Sunday against Craig is a perfect example of why the goalkeeper was never the answer for Celtic this season and why it was probably correct to let him go last season.

The goalkeepers distribution puts Hearts on the back foot before he’s allowed himself to be beaten at the near post. Yes, it’s a good strike from Kyogo but the goalkeeper has done his team a disservice in the whole passage of play.

Had Celtic done their homework and brought in a more capable number one – there would be no rose tinted specs for Craig at all. Yes, he would have been better than Barkas or Bain, but I see that as a major recruitment failure rather a mistake to let him go when we did.

  1. Your assessment is absolutely spot-on. A good shot stopper with good reactions, but poor distribution and decision making as exemplified by your video. It is a ream game. He was and is not the answer and is best where he is.

  2. Kyogo’s goal on Sunday was a wonder goal any keeper would think that they had covered that angle but the pace and bend on that shot would have beat any keeper not just Craig Gordon. take a good look at that goal….

  3. Every keeper makes mistakes and distribution has never been any of their strengths, but Gordon was the best keeper we had for some time , it was big mistake letting him go .
