Remarkable drone footage has emerged showing thousands of Celtic fans descending upon Glasgow’s Trongate to mark the club’s 55th league title win.
Despite safety concerns raised in the lead-up to the day, supporters gathered en masse in what’s become a traditional city centre celebration point. The images captured from above show the scale and vibrancy of the Hoops’ trophy day party, with green and white dominating the streets in a carnival-like atmosphere.
The footage provides a sweeping look over the entire Trongate area. Crowds filled every available space, spilling into adjacent streets, with fans perched on lampposts and traffic lights, waving flags and banners to mark the occasion.
Celtic sealed the title with weeks to spare but the final whistle against St Mirren gave supporters the opportunity to mark the occasion together and they didn’t waste it. It followed scenes at Celtic Park earlier in the afternoon, where Brendan Rodgers’ side were officially presented with the Scottish Premiership trophy following a 1-1 draw.
While Glasgow City Council and the club had urged supporters to avoid large public gatherings in the city centre, the passion of the support again proved impossible to suppress.
There were some unpleasant scenes, with heaps of rubbish lying around, but Glasgow City Council and some Celtic fans worked together to ensure that there were very few signs that a mass gathering had taken place just hours earlier.
