There has been a lot of talk over a potential penalty kick for Dundee Utd at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams played out a draw in the end but many pundits and Dundee Utd fans claim the away side should have had a penalty but Kevin Clancy waved it away.

At the time, from my spot at Celtic Park, it did look like a penalty and in isolation, I believe it was a penalty. However, if you look at the entirety of the build up there’s no way the ball should have been allowed into the box in the first place.

Carl Starfelt clearly gets checked in the build up and is fouled before Dundee Utd go through on goal.

Had the referee been doing his job properly, Celtic would have had a free-kick just outside their own area.

It’s clearly been overlooked so a narrative can be spun. Steven Naismith was speaking on Sportscene about the incident and claimed it was a stonewall penalty.

Celtic have to go back to the drawing board and Ange Postecoglou has to get a reaction out of his players in the next few days or this season could go from bad to worse.

  1. So what’s new…just like the tackle on Mccarthy and the clear and deliberate kick out by the Utd keeper never happened either. Once again, even retrospective action would be no use to us.
Meanwhile the Sons of Satan across the Clyde get a clearly offside ‘goal’ to stand last week, and their keeper stays on the park at Dundees penalty.
Win lose or draw, these decisions are indefensible.
    These are just plain facts.

  2. Also in my opinion the Dundee utd midfielder should have been sent off for a disgraceful over the ball tackle on Mccarthy. The Dundee utd goalie also took out Abada wia high tackle ? Remember hit the bar 3 times and missed an absolute sitterBut the narrative will be on an alleged pen that Dundee utd might have got.
