Normally, a pre-season friendly defeat is not too much to get worried about but that really isn’t the case today at Celtic Park where the Bhoys just lost 2-6 to West Ham.

The reason the fear will be in some of the Celtic support this evening is that the same back four and goalkeeper(s) that started today will line up against FC MIDTJYLLAND on Wednesday evening for the second leg of their Champions League qualifier.

The Celtic defence is put together by inexperienced young players whose shortcomings got highlight today by pace and experience. The tie currently stands at 1-1 and Celtic will need a special performance at the back to progress.

The goalkeeping problem is a season old at this stage, you know the definition of insanity?

Celtic actually looks decent in attack but it’s been well over a year since the Celtic board knew that Celtic the team is really short and desperate at the back. This is what is irritating fans the most.

The new Celtic manager looked irritated in his post-match interview. Asked about missing out on a chance for squad rotation today and keeping players happy the manager said:

When asked about Barkas the manager also highlighting that he can’t shield players from criticism and he expects the individuals to stand up and take responsibility.

Celtic have new players in the door but getting them onto the park with COVID protocols is the problem.

  1. That today was a shambles and is the result of terrible recruitment over a long period of time. One week until the season starts and nearly an entire new team required, it’s not good enough and those in charge of our club should hold their heads in shame.
We will be out of Europe on Wednesday against a very poor team, that says it all.

  2. Yep-a defence comprising of Barkas, Ralston, Taylor, Welsh and 18 yr old Murray would struggle to cope with an average Scottish team so its probably curtains on Wed.

We have had many poor players in our team over the years but in recent times I cant think many have been worse than Taylor & Ralston.

I still shudder at old Defoe tying Welsh in knots before scoring at Ibrox in May and our colt teams results in Lowland League prove how poor our youth set up is. KT was last decent player to come through-7 years ago now.

The failure to sack Lennon last autumn followed by the Howe fiasco when he should have been set an early deadline (he was unemployed FFS!) has left us short of time though its the same story EVERY year.
If we somehow scrape through on Wed then with the new signings coming in, then I would be pretty confident about our season but what a mess this incompetent board have left Ange in.

  3. The manager must also take some criticism, it’s obvious ralston and tayler are not capable of playing in this system, a good manager will alter his system and formation to siut the players he has available until he can get new players that suit, why is he playing Eddie and Christie when neither have committed to staying.

    • What system i could read what we were doing shocker . Keeper plays it out then back to keeper or side ways then dodgy pass and west ham are on us a feckin joke

  4. I have said all along the scouting system is terrible and as for academy players that’s Micky mouse football farm them out to smaller clubs love to see some of them play a season in lower leagues probably would not hack it Celtic need a clear out from top to bottom

  5. He is playing Eddy and Christie because they are the best players he has. Every article keeps mentioning the Covid difficulties with signing players yet the players we are interested in today are the same as those mentioned 3 weeks ago. It does not take that long to get things done. It does for Celtic though. The board have gutted the club and all the money they made is not enough to fix it. Where all of the money has gone is anyone’s guess? This season will be more difficult to take than last. The team is stuffed with poor players but worse they are fragile and one set back will see them collapse. There are no KTs or Broonies in this outfit.

  6. Celtic just need to concentrate on listening to the words spoken by the Gaffer and have the confidence the results will come under him. Keep up the good work Ange.

  7. I do think we’ll struggle to overcome the Danes unless we give it a right good go. Get the feeling the bhoys are getting the positive vibes now and being much more expressive.
Those players are now ‘doing a bit’ as opposed to last season. Be chop and change for a while yet lhads. Buckle up, watch a’ Henrik best of vid and be up for a Celtic revival.
    Hoopy days!
