DAVID TURNBULL scored a brace for Celtic on the opening day of the season in a game where the bhoys ran out 4-2 winners against Ross County.
The midfielder came in from the cold of the past two seasons where he’s not played a lot of football under Ange Postecoglou.
The former Motherwell man grasped his opportunity, scoring a penalty and a neat close range finish in the first half. He could even have had a hat trick.
Turnbull was in a midfield three with Matt O’Riley and Callum McGregor. After the game, O’Riley and Turnbull spoke to Sky Sports and when asked about his lack of game time, O’Riley piped in saying David should have had more game time before now.
“Let’s be honest it was tough for you last year” O’Riley said towards Turnbull.
“He’s too good not to play football in my opinion
“Last season his application off the pitch, he just got on with his work every day.”
This will see some people believe Matt is taking another dig at former boss Ange Postecoglou who didn’t give David much time at all.
It’s great to see O’Riley sticking up for his teammate. But we have to remember how competitive that midfield is and Reo Hatate alongside Cal Mac, O’Riley and Aaron Mooy meant it was going to be a struggle.
Turnbull did make some impact under Ange from the bench.
Away from the discussion, Celtic are three points to the good and have started their title defence off with a win. They’ll be looking to concede less goals at Pittdorie next Sunday.
