At this moment in time, there are enough battles going on between Celtic and their Ibrox neighbours. There is no need to be adding any more. Reports from last month have resurfaced again today that suggested the two clubs were about to lock horns for summer transfer target, Uche Ikpeazu, currently playing at Hearts.

Celtic legend, Frank McAvennie, thinks it is not a battle Celtic need to be entering. Speaking with Open Goal the ex-Celt said:

He is a handful, I know, but not for Celtic. They need quality. When Edouard is on form, he’s head and shoulders above him. He is a good player, but not for Celtic.”

If Celtic can hold onto Oli Burke & Timo Weah for another season, they might escape the need to buy another striker for one season at least. Burke & Weah might only be extended loan signings but they could save Celtic a fortune by staying an extra year. Leigh Griffiths is back at Lennoxtown training and looks set to re-enter the fold for next season. If Celtic started next season with Edouard, Griffiths, Burke & Weah they would be well set with their forward line.

There will be a massive overhaul in the back line with the possibility of at least four defenders heading for the exit doors. Benkovic and Toljan could return to their parent clubs, Boyata and Lustig have not signed new contracts with Celtic.

  1. Frank, he’s just a big mauler, creative football is low on his attributes list. Compared to Hartson or Sutton, he’s a nobody. All erse and elbows, no class and a real chancer. Gets away with appeals to the refs as if he was poleaxed. 4 out of 10, definitely Hun top prospect.

  2. Wouldn’t go near him …. more like sevco type messiah….. big n strong but no real football talent…. better suited to the also rans ….
