It’s easy to forget we have not one, but two players in America who haven’t kicked a professional ball for the club in two years.

Last night, Perez scored a screamer on the volley for North Carolina in their 2-1 win against Birmingham.

Signed as an experiment under Lee Congerton, Celtic picked up Manny Perez and Andrew Gutman from the states, signed them, then loaned them back to clubs in their home country.

Apart from one or two friendly appearances, Gutman and Perez are in limbo. The two players need to be capped by their country before they will be considered for a working visa in the U.K.. Gutman has made a preliminary list before being cut but Perez hasn’t got anywhere near.

It will be no surprise to this writer if neither play a competitive game for Celtic. The experiment, like a lot of Lee Congerton’s work, looks like it has been a misfire.
