18-year-old Mikey Johnston did himself the world of good at Celtic Park last night when he came off the bench with 20 minutes left.

Johnston looked lively and full of running for those 20 minutes and became a handful for the Thistle defenders. There had been whispers about Johnston and his potential over the last year or so. As of yet, Mikey has only made his 3 appearances for the Hoops. The energy and composure he showed will offer Rodgers some natural cover for Scott Sinclair.

Johnston just signed a new and improved contract with Celtic that keeps him at the club until 2020. Apparently, Chelsea had started to circle the player and wanted to take him down south.

Johnston also got caught up in an international storm a few months ago, like his fellow Celtic winger Aidan McGeady, the Republic of Ireland want the youngster to declare for them. Unlike McGeady, Johnston has been involved with the Scotland youth set up.

If his 20 minutes impressed you well take a look at this clip from the academy. It’s not too hard to see why he is getting attention internationally and down south. The Celtic team has looked like it has needed a shot in the arm the last few weeks. Everyone expects that shot in the arm to come from the January transfer window, maybe it’s under our noses. Tekkers.
