While there has been a lot of talk recently about potential incomings at Celtic Park, there has been less noise in the way of surplus players moving on.

It’s fair to say there are a few players who have not impressed Rodgers in his first season in Glasgow and one of those players is Gary Mackay-Steven.

The midfielder has had an unfortunate time with injury but has also failed to impress the gaffer in the few outings he’s had. GMS has blown hot and cold in a Celtic jersey but has never really got going since his move from Dundee Utd. In comparison, his mate Stuart Armstrong has excelled under Rodgers management after initially looking out of favour.

This means GMS is likely to move on this summer and being only 26 he’s attracting interest from clubs down south who are in need of someone with attacking flair.

Aston Villa and Blackburn have been monitoring the midfielder’s situation for some time and know they could get him for a snip at around 500k – small change for most Championship sides.

Rodgers has spoken several times about reducing the squad size and whether it’s sooner or later, GMS looks to be a casualty of that.

  1. Why are we so keen to push GMS out the door when there are many before him is Bitton, Cifti, Janko, Baily, DeFries, All GMS needs is to believe in himself again lacking self confidence new season new start
