Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on Celtic star Kieran Tierney and the Dutchman even recalled his debut for Celtic when he was playing for the club.

The Champions League winner who is also a Ballon d’or nominee this year has gone onto great things since leaving Celtic. Asked if Kieran Tierney could make the step up to the Premier League, the defender was clear.

“It is not an easy step to make and you have to play well to do it.” he told the Evening Times.

“But he has the qualities.

”Kieran made his debut against Dundee when I was at Celtic. I scored a free-kick up there and then he came on and helped us get the win. You could tell he was a good player who would do well.”

The saga of the summer has been Arsenal’s pitiful pursuit of Kieran Tierney with the London club penny pinching to try and get a deal over the line.

Virgil van Dijk is the reason Celtic should only be accepting big offers for their player. We took around £12 for the defender and he would go for £75m and become the most expensive defender in the world just a few years later.

Like Virgil, Kieran has obvious qualities which would make him a success down south if he were to go.

Right now, the left-back is a Celtic player and until any club matches his valuation to the full, he will remain a Celtic player.
