AIKs sporting director has not ruled out a move for Mikael Lustig in the summer with the Celtic defender about to enter the last six months of his current Celtic deal.

Bjorn Wesstrom, who deals with transfers at the Swedish Champions was respectful but admitted Lustig is player who would interest them if he became available.

The AIK director made it clear there had been no formal approach by the club to try and land the Swedish international at this point but again doesn’t rule out the move in future.

“Lustig is one of those players who may want some good years in Sweden before he finishes.” Bjorn Said.

“He resembles Sebastian in that way. Lustig is the right age but I want to emphasise he has an agreement with Celtic.

“To contact him now we would need Celtic’s blessing and we have not asked for that. We have not had formal contact with him.

“At the same time, of course, he’s an interesting player who’d add a lot.”

If Celtic don’t tie Lustig down within the next month the Swede will be free to talk to any club about a pre-contract agreement.

At the age of 33, many accept Lustig’s best footballing days are behind him but the defender may still be in the position to play some part for Celtic in the next year or two.

It all depends on how the manager views Mikael and if he’s okay with playing back up to a new right back.

It sounds like AIK are waiting until January to make their move.
