Former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama has been full of praise for the Hoops newest recruit Alistair Johnston.

Johnston played alongside Wanyama at CF Montreal and got a real flavour of the Scottish champions from the man who used to adorn the number 67 jersey at Celtic.

The Canadian international completed his move for a fee believed to be around £3 million on a 5-year-deal which once again looks like a great piece of business.

It appears that Wanyama could have a future in football agency as it looks as though the move to the Hoops was an easy sell.

He knows his qualities very well and right away thought that it would be the perfect fit for both parties having spent two great years at Celtic under Neil Lennon.

The former Kenyan international wrote his name into the history books at Parkhead when he was one of the scorers on the night that Celtic defeated reigning European champions Barcelona at Celtic Park as youngster Tony Watt scored the winning goal.

“I told him about how big a club Celtic is and how amazing the fans are,” said Wanyama speaking to The Athletic.

“I told him that the fans are demanding, but they will always have your back. He is very professional and well-educated. He loves reading books and engaging in conversation. I see him as a future leader. He can run for days.”

“He was always up and down the right demanding the ball from me, so that’s how I recognise him — energy.”

That particular side of Johnston really shone through during his fan media conference as the defender gave me a very detailed answer to playing the inverted fullback role having already picked up a good understanding as to what is required.

One of the standout characteristics of Postecoglou’s team is their fitness levels which appears to be right up Johnston’s street.
