Arne Engels’ debut for Celtic came in the most dramatic of contexts.

Less than 48 hours after his record £11 million transfer from Augsburg, he found himself immersed in the fervour of the Glasgow Derby. As he joined his new teammates in a victory lap around Parkhead, the cameras captured his single-word reaction to the experience: “Amazing.”

The Belgian came on with about half an hour to play and looked good, but there is still a lot more to be seen of him.

This sentiment perfectly encapsulated Celtic’s dominant 3-0 victory over Rangers, a win that propelled them five points clear of their rivals at the top of the Premiership early in the season. Goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Callum McGregor secured the win, and there really should have been more.

Arne Engels put pen to paper on deadline day, with Luke McCowan joining him in doing so. He too got a Glasgow Derby debut on Sunday, but had to wait a little longer before he could replace Hatate.
