Bayern Munich players experienced the famous Celtic Park atmosphere firsthand during their 2-1 victory in the Champions League knockout play-off on Wednesday night—and it certainly left an impression.

The legendary Celtic roar, often described as one of the most intimidating atmospheres in European football, was at full volume as the teams emerged onto the pitch to the Champions League anthem. And while the noise and energy clearly made an impact on the visiting players, Bayern ultimately found a way to silence the home crowd with a clinical performance.

The noise levels peaked early when Nicolas Kühn’s 25-yard strike hit the back of the net within the opening minute. Celtic Park erupted in celebration—only for the goal to be chalked off for offside. Still, the intensity of the crowd didn’t waver, and Bayern’s backline endured wave after wave of Celtic pressure throughout the match.

When Daizen Maeda’s late header gave Celtic hope, the noise reached deafening levels, with the home support roaring the team forward in search of an equaliser.

The second leg now awaits in Munich next Tuesday, and if Celtic can replicate their second half performance on the pitch they may yet cause another famous upset in Europe, but it’s a massive ask.
