Substituted in when Brighton were down 1-0, O’Riley quickly turned the tide after Joao Pedro equalized, slotting home a confident strike past Ederson following a slick pass from Pedro.

This goal was a special moment for O’Riley, not only because it sealed a victory over the reigning champions but also marked his first goal since his £30 million transfer from Celtic in the summer. It was his first game back after an injury sustained during his debut in the cup, adding to the significance of his return.

The Dane will look to be a key figure for Brighton, who continue to push for European qualification this season.

After the final whistle, a moment of light-hearted nostalgia unfolded as O’Riley’s post-match habits kicked in.

Accustomed to the traditions of post-match celebrations at Celtic Park, O’Riley instinctively started to react as he would in Glasgow.

His muscle memory took over, but a Brighton teammate stepped in with a smile, guiding him through their own celebration routine.

It’s always great to see a former Celtic star do well, especially someone like Matt O’Riley.
