Jota’s name may be one that is long in the distant past for Celtic fans. Indeed the Portuguese winger now plies his trade for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

He was not included in his team’s squad for the league, but he can play in cup and continental action. That is exactly what he did last night when his side faced off against Al Qawa Al Jawiya.

Jota played up until the 73rd minute when he was substituted, an action that caused a bitter reaction from his team’s fans. Indeed boos rang around the stadium when the 24-year-old came off with the score at 0-0:

Having created the most chances in the match and completed the most dribbles of any player up to that point, it is clear to see why the supporters were not happy. Jota is clearly someone who the Al-Ittihad fans admire, and it is disappointing that the move has not turned out the way in which he would have wanted it to.

Nevertheless, he is taking home a colossal pay packet, and there is still time for him to succeed. For Hoops fans, it will be hoped he can, particularly with recent news over financial additives for the club of ex-players doing well elsewhere.
