Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel marked his one-year extension at the Hoops with a standout performance against Young Boys in the Champions League at Celtic Park.

Schmeichel, who had big boots to fill in the summer replacing Joe Hart, has shown why he has had such an impressive career with the immense pressure to live up to his father, Kasper. He has made his own path, winning the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester City.

Tonight, for Celtic, he showed why Brendan Rodgers was so desperate to re-sign him in the summer, having previously worked together at the Foxes from 2019 until 2022.

Schmeichel has now kept 3 Champions League clean sheets in the last 5 games, a remarkable statistic given the Hoops’ poor record in Europe over the last decade.

The cliché of building a team from the back can’t be any more clear, with the Dane proving to build a solid foundation for Celtic to attack from, with a late winner tonight at Celtic Park after a sensational double save in the 62nd minute to keep the game level.

He will likely go down as one of the best goalkeepers Celtic have seen in recent years, with his ability to keep games level in Europe, something the Hoops have lacked over the last decade. On the day he committed to a further year at the club, it is a real coup for Celtic, who will look to push on over the next 18 months in the Champions League.
