If you’re a regular reader of our site, you’ll know we’ve covered last weekend’s Glasgow derby from every angle—whether it was the goals, the fans, or the jubilant celebrations as Celtic cruised to a 3-0 victory. However, one clip that slipped past us was Kyogo’s post-goal celebration, which has been picked up by many supporters on Twitter.
After his sensational long-range strike, Kyogo took a moment to acknowledge the crowd by cupping his ears, soaking in the roaring approval of the Celtic faithful. But what really caught everyone’s attention was his next move. The Japanese forward tapped the Celtic crest on his shirt and pointed to the ground—a gesture he’d never done during a celebration before. The message was clear – I’m staying here. I belong here.

This was likely Kyogo’s direct response to rumours over the summer suggesting he might have been on his way out, with Manchester City reportedly eyeing up the former City Group player. Despite the speculation, it’s clear Kyogo’s heart is still very much at Celtic, and Sunday’s display reminded everyone just how crucial he is to the team. While some thought the club could have moved on without him, the derby showed exactly why that would have been a massive mistake.
Kyogo’s passion for Celtic was on full display, and it’s safe to say we’re all thrilled to see him reaffirm his commitment to the club. Long may it continue!
Celtic are now enjoying a break after the pulsating and winning start to the season. They are top of the SPFL with Aberdeen only in second on goal difference. With some big games coming up after the international break and also the small matter of the Champions League, we hope Kyogo’s first goal of the season will be the first of many in September.
I always felt certain players we were very lucky to have had, like Henrik, I truly believe we are very lucky to have Kyogo. Thank you Ange!
