The midfielder, who left Celtic on Transfer Deadline Day to join the League One leaders, has made an immediate impact, netting three goals in seven appearances for his new club.

Iwata’s arrival has coincided with an impressive run of form for Birmingham, who are sitting top of the League One table with 22 points from nine matches. After suffering the disappointment of relegation on the final day of last season, the Blues now look well-placed for automatic promotion, with Wrexham emerging as their likely rivals for the title.

They’re two points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand.

It was another great goal for Tomoki Iwata, with his first two superb strikes.

This time,  it was a first-touch strike from inside the box. He struck it cleanly and left the keeper with very little chance. It was former Rangers man Scott Wright with the assist.

It’s great to see the Japanese midfielder excelling. At Celtic, you could see the quality was there, but he wasn’t given the consistent opportunities to show it.

Now, under former Hoops assistant Chris Davies, he’s playing well week in and week out.
