KRISTOFFER AJER won Celtic’s young player of the year award last weekend and rightly so but now we want an award made up just for him after seeing the player miss out on a PFA young player of the year award shortlist.
How about tackle of the year? Maybe we call it ‘slide tackle of the year’ so it sounds less like an award for the adult film industry.
Players get credit and adulation for goals but some of the defensive displays get praised at the time and then consigned to history. If there’s one more award Ajer should be getting this season it would certainly be slide tackle of the season!
His intervention in the Glasgow Derby was just as important as James Forrest late winner to ensure Celtic took all three points at Celtic Park on the day.
With Celtic 2-1 ahead and looking to see the game out, the Ibrox club pressed for another equaliser and they perhaps should have got it but they weren’t counting on the big Norwegian becoming the hero. Take a look:
Outstanding defending from Ajer there! He had a cracking game!!
This tackle’s up there with Simunovic on Miller!
And, his reaction ? Get in there, Krisy Bhoy!!

This tackle in the same game would get runner up.
Don't feel as though enough has been made about this tackle.
Big Ajer was taking anything that was in his way to win that ball.

We all know who should win slide tackle of the century though! Step forward Jozo Simunovic!
