NEIL MCCANN has told Dundee fans he can’t promise Celtic target Steven Caulker will be a Dundee player by the end of the summer window.

Dundee made waves when they signed Caulker last season after the player was released from his QPR contract.

Although the Englishman has obvious talent, his lack of game time due to personal struggles in the past has limited his options on the field.

After Brendan Rodgers tried to bring the player to Celtic Park last summer the defender finally opted for a move to Scotland with Dundee to get back playing games and ultimately get back to his best.

The former Spurs, Cardiff and Liverpool defender is highly regarded by Brendan Rodgers who has been monitoring his football comeback at Dundee very closely.

With Celtic looking to strengthen their position this summer, Steven is very much a viable option especially if Dedryk Boyata fails to agree on a new deal in the coming months.

Speaking about his player, Neil McCann seemed positive but couldn’t guarantee where Steven will be on August 31st. Will Brendan go back in for last years top defensive target?

“Steven Caulker came in and we knocked back a huge bid. He is a sought after player and he has a wonderful pedigree, I had to sweet talk him to get him to Dundee because it wouldn’t have been his first choice.

“Yeah, it’s a big risk to knock that money back for Steven Caulker but if we accepted it, we might not have been in the Premiership – it was a brave decision.

“I’m not saying we won’t lose Steven in the summer, but the club did some wonderful work to retain him on a longer contract.

“I think that risk paid off because I think he had some towering performances towards the end and we needed it.”

Brendan Rodgers is looking to get his business done as early as possible with Champions League qualifiers coming up in July.

Speaking on Caulker last summer Rodgers was very complimentary.

“He is 6ft3ins, quick, strong, he can play. You would take him to war with you. He is unbelievable, both boxes, he is an incredible young footballer”

  1. If he comes he comes, Brendan likes his moves. Brendan knows best. Celtic really need more than one big header-kicker of the baw at the back and Front though. And SUPER Lee can probably out jump Steven in training anyway.
