The Steven Gerrard thrown his players under the bus patter has been alive and well now for two seasons so maybe Neil Lennon was having a wee dig at the Ibrox manager with his latest comments. And just to prove the point we have some freshly squeezed insults from Stevie G he flung the way of his lacklustre players only yesterday.

The wheels are starting to come off the Garrard hype train once again and yesterday Aberdeen left Ibrox wondering why they only had one point instead of all three in a bore draw. This led Gerrard to single out Morelos and Kent in his post-match comments for missing chances and not bringing any spark to the team. He questioned where his players had gone missing to after they recorded their first-ever Celtic Park win in December.

In complete contrast, Neil Lennon has been out defending his players and in particular, James Forrest for his part in the loss in December’s Glasgow derby.

“James is a big-game player and, alright, he didn’t have one of his better games in the 2-1 defeat by Rangers after Christmas but we make too big an issue of it at times, we really do.

“I always think home-grown players get criticised a little bit harder for some reason.

“Maybe it has something to do with the fact he’s such a quiet kid. “There’s been no controversy surrounding him, no social media – he just comes in, does his training, plays his football and goes home again. He’s a manager’s dream.”

The Celtic boss who comes with a reputation of being a hothead in the dressing room then went on to really separate himself from the style of manager Gerrard is.

“Our supporters need to understand that sometimes teams will score against us – it’s about our reaction and every time we’ve conceded this season, our reaction has been good.

“They don’t panic, there’s no anxiety, they just get on with it.

“We don’t throw anyone under a bus, we stay together, we get back in the game and go and win it.”

The Bhoys have a chance this afternoon to create a gap in the league table as they play away to bottom-placed Hamilton Accies. Neil Lennon will be looking for the thunderous start he watched Wednesday night when his team blew St Johnstone away in the opening thirty minutes.
