CHRIS SUTTON hasn’t pulled any punches discussing his former team-mate and friends future at Celtic if performances don’t improve

Sutton believes the performances and results in vital games like Cluj and Ferencvaros are big black marks against Neil Lennon. The defeat at the weekend in the Glasgow Derby another mark against the Irishman, especially with such a woeful performance.

Derby games can be blown out of context at a loss but Chris calls it correctly when he points out the performance we got against our rivals was pretty much the same kind of thing we’ve been getting since the start of the season.

The BT pundit goes one further and thinks if the Milan game turns into an exhibition for the away side, Peter Lawwell’s faith might begin to waver,

“Ferencvaros is a massive problem for Neil Lennon, off the back of going out to Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers last year. That’s added pressure.” Sutton told RecordSport.

“He got himself out of trouble in many respect with the good performances in the Europa League, that’s all forgotten after the start to this season. Out of the Champions League, losing to Rangers and losing badly.

“That’s the third performance against Rangers in a row where Rangers have been the dominant team and it’s pretty eye opening for Celtic fans. They’re thinking ‘How are we going to turn it around?’.

“He needs a performance, and he needs a big performance, and maybe he’ll get it against AC Milan on Thursday.

“The truth of the matter is we’re all sitting there and thinking AC Milan, in the form they are in, will come and turn Celtic over easily.

“But Neil Lennon somehow needs to get a tune out of his players, otherwise Peter Lawwell might be thinking ‘we need a different voice, I can’t let this carry on’.”

Celtic go into a heavy list of fixtures in the run-up to Christmas. There’s little time to draw breath and figure out how best to proceed. The Celtic manager must tweak as he goes and hope the players start responding.

Right now, it’s just not good enough for what is a very important season.

  1. I think if we win the league,it will be despite Lennon, not because of him.
The powers that be at Celtic Park will have failed miserably if they have not already identified,or even spoken to,a potential new manager.
If,as reported,Lennon is on a ‘yellow card’ at such a crucial time, then it’s extremely risky to let him continue…i hope the risk pays off,but i have no confidence whatsoever that it will.
The players might get Lenny out of jail one more time, but i believe his time is up anyway.
