The Greek FA are paying for Jay Beatty and his family to go to Brasil after Greek fans set up a facebook page to send him to see his idol Samaras play in the World cup.
Jay, who has Down’s syndrome, became friends with Samaras during the big Greeks time at Celtic Park, Sammy even brought him onto the park on title day last season to celebrate with the players after Neil Lennon handed him his winners medal.
Jay absolutely idolises the Greek striker and he will be overwhelmed by this.
Samaras spoke fondly about Jay earlier –
“This boy gives me so much strength, it’s incredible. There are no words. I feel his love so much.”
“This morning, in a talk I had with the head of the EPO, we said we will arrange his tickets to come and watch the match with Costa Rica.”
A fantastic gesture by the Greek Football Federation and Samaras.
Proof football still has a heart.
UPDATE – Unfortunately, Jay can’t take up this generous offer as he is on a family holiday already, his Dad left this post on Facebook tonight with a message from Jay to Sammy.
