Ange Postecoglou confirmed that he is in no rush to streamline his Celtic squad during the January transfer window.

The Celtic boss was speaking to the media ahead of Celtic’s match against St Mirren which they head into nine points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership.

Rotation to the team is expected for the visit of St Mirren as the manager admitted that semi final win over Kilmarnock took a fair bit out of the players.

Since it’s the January window, a number of players have been linked to moves away from Parkhead but until now the only exits have been loans as Johnny Kenny, Adam Montgomery and Tobi Oluwayemi have all headed out for some needed game time.

Postecoglou isn’t commenting on anyone specific but admits that he is pretty comfortable at the moment and that there could be space for a further addition.

Unlike previous windows gone by, the Scottish champions appear to remain in full control of the situation and don’t feel the need to be anxious during this window or in a rush to move players on.

“No great urgency,” Ange Postecoglou told Celts Are Here.

“I want us to be in a position that, by bringing in those three players early is that we are in a position now that we are not really on tender hooks through January.

“If we do happen to lose players, we’re not sort of scrambling about trying to replace them. We’ve got a really strong squad which I’m happy with and we can make our decisions about incoming or exits without the need for urgency or panic on our behalf.

“Our planning has always been that we try and get our business done early, we’re still active and I still think there’s a space for one more.”

It is not yet known who that addition may be as talk of a transfer for South Korean striker Cho Gue-sung seems to be off.

Celtic are likely to prioritise bringing in a striker this window if Giorgos Giakoumakis leaves the club.
