Celtic Women were victorious over Glasgow City on Thursday evening in front of a rapturous Parkhead crowd.

‘The Celtic End’ was trialled for the first time and it is fair to say it worked out rather well with most supporters in favour of its implementation in the long term.

A record breaking 9,553 fans attended the clash in which Celtic ran out eventual 3-1 winners.

Said victory took the Ghirls within just two points of Glasgow City with two SWPL matches left to play.

The title is well within the reach of Fran Alonso’s side yet in order to win it, they firstly must win their own last two league games away at Hibs and at home to Hearts.

As well as this, they need Glasgow City to drop points once in their final two matches versus Partick Thistle and Rangers.

Particularly against the latter, this is vastly possible and should Celtic win their own games, the title will not be ruled out.

It should also be noted the Hoops are on the same amount of points, 75, as Rangers but have the upper hand on goal difference, remaining four ahead of the Gers. Alonso’s side will also need to keep this lead over the light blues intact to win the SWPL.

Of course, it is well within the realms of possibility that Celtic Women claw it back and secure their first ever league title between now and the end of the campaign.

If they don’t, though, there is still the opportunity for them to get their hands on some silverware when they take on Rangers in the Women’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden at the end of May.
