Celtic youngster Mikey Johnston has a fantastic raw talent but the youngster also has an attitude and smarts perhaps beyond his age.

The 19-year-old has been playing his football for the developmental squad and has been earning rave reviews from the youth coaches the past few seasons.

This pre-season Mike was given the opportunity to go out with the full Celtic squad and get stuck into training and the games in Austria.

He has earned more plaudits for his attributes shown in pre-season so far but the youngster knows it could make or break time for him at Celtic even though he’s not even 20 yet!

“I’ve just turned 19 so I’m at the stage in my career where I know I need to break through to the first team” Mikey told the Celtic View.

“I was told before I went out to Toulon that I’d be coming away on pre-season so that was a nice boost.”

Scotland Under 21s made it to the semi final of the Toulon tournament and Mikey certainly left his mark on the competition – scoring a sensational goal against the auld enemy a particular highlight.

The tricky winger knows he has his work cut out for him this season but will do all he can to progress.

“I know what’s necessary and thatI need to make sacrifices and I’ll do whatever it takes to put myself in the best position to succeed.”

Mikey comes across as a very sensible and driven young man.
