Callum McGregor is expected to be back in action for Celtic’s next match against Hearts after the international break, according to SunSport.

The Celtic captain was desperate to feature in Sunday’s Glasgow Derby and even told the media he was willing to play through the pain barrier. However, he was ultimately ruled out, and his absence was felt as Celtic fell to a 3-2 defeat despite battling back from two goals down. McGregor’s return will be a huge boost for Brendan Rodgers, who will be eager to get his captain back for the title run-in.

Paulo Bernardo is also expected to return after the break, giving Celtic more depth in midfield. James Forrest is already back in full training and could feature in the coming weeks. Daizen Maeda, who missed a Japan training session earlier in the week, has since returned to action and appears to have shaken off any concerns.

Auston Trusty’s situation remains unclear. The defender pulled out of the USA squad with a similar calf issue to McGregor’s, and Celtic are still awaiting clarity on his recovery.

With big fixtures ahead, Rodgers will be hoping to have a fully fit squad when club football resumes, as Celtic edge closer to securing a fourth consecutive league title.
