CELTIC has had their fixture against Livingston postponed after the Queen died on Thursday.
The country has entered a mourning period, with the end date unclear. Despite the Palace and Government not making it mandatory that football is to close down, this weekend’s SPFL fixtures will not take place and will be moved to a later date.
Celtic’s schedule was already hectic; with an international break just around the corner and the team playing two games a week, it’s going to be tough to find a new slot for the game.
To make matters worse, a World Cup has been scheduled to take place in the middle of the season.
The last of the action before Qatar 2022 will take place on the 12th of November, with the Hoops hosting Ross County. The league will commence again on the 17th of December, with a trip to Pittodrie lined up.
Looking at the fixtures on the SPFL website, there is a gap between the derby on Monday the 2nd of January and welcoming Killie Saturday the 7th. Could the SPFL manage to squeeze the games in here, even if it meant delaying Saturday’s fixtures to the 8th?
There’s no cup action midweek, with the fourth round of the Scottish Cup kicking off later in the month. The Premier Sports Cup final isn’t due to be played until the next month.
If the SPFL are looking to play the fixtures as soon as, Thursday 5th of January, or around that, that would be the date.
Nothing has been confirmed by the SPFL yet.

The midweek after we return from the world cup looks open too, in-between Aberdeen away on December 17th and St Johnstone at home on December 24th; it’s the only midweek this year we’ll have free.
So if it’s a gentlemen’s agreement. Are the refs not going to turn up then?
The lunatics have taken over the asylum. So much for helping the common person survive in these trying times.
Play the game, suspend the walking of the Cinderella coach, the horse with a pair of backwards patented, thigh hi boots, digging of a hole and burial. Nobody’s going to complain, gives even more idiots time to morn the deid Nazi zombie Xeon.
There may be a outcry, but not by the sensible billions of humans, who don’t give a toss for someone who overstayed their well wore out welcome.
As the planet will still revolve like usual.
Well said sir.
“The country has entered a mourning period”
Certainly not. Certain sections of society may be in mourning, i actually find this an unwanted intrusion on daily matters.
Bury the German and quit with the fuss.
