It’s been a whirlwind few days for Callum Osmand.
The 19-year-old forward scored his first Celtic goal in just his second competitive appearance, and it came on one of the biggest stages possible.
His extra-time strike sealed Celtic’s 3–1 win over Rangers, booking Martin O’Neill’s side a place in December’s Premier Sports Cup final.
It was a dream moment for the youngster, who’s already making a name for himself after being given a chance under the interim boss.
However, Osmand will have to watch from the stands on Thursday when Celtic resume their Europa League campaign against Midtjylland.
The teenager wasn’t registered for European competition this season, a decision made during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure, when squad selections were finalised.
It means O’Neill will be without his in-form striker as Celtic travel to Denmark. That leaves Johnny Kenny and Kelechi Iheanacho as the only recognised senior forwards available, unless Daizen Maeda is pushed into a central role.
It’s an unfortunate blow for Osmand after such a memorable breakthrough, but with form and confidence now on his side, his time in Europe will surely come soon enough.
He’ll be focused in training this week, looking to hopefully get another chance when Kilmarnock make the trip to Celtic on Sunday.
