MARC ALBRIGHTON is without a club after Aston Villa decided not to renew the midfielders contract beyond this season.
This came as a surprise to many as Marc was one of the more positive players in Aston Villa’s end of season fight against the drop. He has spent his whole career at Villa (bar a 28 day Wigan Loan), coming through the youth academy.
Villa Boss Paul Lambert wished the player all the best for the future as he confirmed the midfielder was leaving Villa Park
“We wish Marc the best in his future career and acknowledge the contribution he has made to the club over the past several years having graduated from our academy.” he said.
Now he’s a free agent, the winger wont be short of offers from some of the lower league clubs in the Premiership, newly promoted Leicester already look keen on his signature.
I think Neil Lennon should take a serious look at trying to bring this player to Glasgow. With no transfer fee to hand over it should be a no brainer for the club in my opinion.
Celtic desperately need to strengthen their wide areas and the 24 year old would fit in perfectly. Given his age there is great potential to make a profit in the future if he is a success.
The stumbling block would be competing with Premiership teams in terms of wages, there is no doubt they can offer more than Celtic can but sometimes the pull of Celtic and European football can win a player over – Joe Ledley being an example of this back when he signed for Celtic.
He has been unlucky with injuries since bursting on to the scene as a young lad but he is determined to put that behind him as he seeks regular first team football.
Wherever the player goes I’ll be disappointed if Celtic aren’t at least in the mix for his signature. It could be a great move for both parties.
Over to you Peter.
