Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has given the reason he believes Neil Lennon has yet to leave his post at Celtic due to the finances he would be giving up.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie believes that despite the heavy criticism it is unlikely that Lennon will walk away due to the financiers involved but in doing that continues to affect his legacy at the club.

“He is not going to walk away from all the money. If Celtic do not want to sack him then that is fine, he is going to stay there.

“I feel for him though, I am worried about his legacy. He is such an icon at the club and I do not want to see him going down this road.

“We keep hoping he is going to turn it around but I do not think that team is good enough.”

Some fans may have accepted this reasoning early on in the season when things weren’t quite as bad and there was still even a slim chance of turning this around.

However, now it’s got to a stage far past that. It’s negatively affecting the club going forward and is also doing massive damage to his legacy at the club.

Neil Lennon as a player will likely always be remembered as a legend and to an extent, some of his actions as a manager could have been seen that way. But with everything that has happened this season, you can’t help but feel a lot of fans opinions will have changed and will only see the damage done in this season of all seasons which is not how we wanted to see this end.
