DAVIE PROVAN can be negative about Celtic and we call him out on it when he does go over the score. The Sky Sports commentator has been detached from the day to day rigours of Scottish football we think he genuinely forgets where he has come from.

One thing the ex-Celt does have experience of watching for the past twenty years is English football and he made a very pertinent comment when it came to Celtic’s potential draw in the Europa League round of 32.

With Celtic already qualified with two games to spare, the bhoys can now look to go and win their group so they’ll avoid the harder teams in that draw.

However, Provan believes Celtic would and should not fear English opposition in the knockout stages because of their struggles at home.

Writing in his SunSport column, the former Celt thinks the bhoys would fancy their chances against a Man Utd or Arsenal because clubs like Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

‘Manchester United and Arsenal? If Bournemouth and Sheffield United are turning that pair over, why wouldn’t Celtic fancy their chances against them?

‘Elsewhere, of clubs likely to parachute in from the Champions League, both Inter Milan and Valencia would be unwelcome but here’s the rub.

‘If Celtic top their group, they’re automatically seeded allowing them to avoid the better opposition.

‘That’s crucial because there’ll be nothing for Celts to fear in the unseeded half of the draw.’
