The social media account widely believed to belong to Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy has now been made private, just 24 hours after it posted a cryptic Venn diagram that caused a stir among supporters.
The @wilfriednancy handle – active since 2011 and created via the Canadian app store – has held the same username for well over a decade and was previously acknowledged by Columbus Crew and CF Montréal, adding to growing confidence that it is indeed the manager’s personal account.
It was also used to post a thank-you message to the MLS side as Nancy departed for Celtic, and until last night had remained largely under the radar.
But after the Venn diagram image appeared online – highlighting the intersection of “Things that matter” and “Things you can control” with the caption “What you should focus on” – it quickly went viral across Scottish football.
Thousands of new followers poured in overnight, likely a mix of curious Celtic supporters, rival fans, and those in the media. However, the account has now gone private, meaning only previously approved followers can view its content.
The post remains up, and his profile picture remains the same.
Any new would-be followers must now be approved manually by the account owner.
With pressure mounting at Parkhead following three straight defeats, and Nancy already under the spotlight for performances and selections, the timing of the post – and now the decision to lock down the account – has added another strange chapter to what’s been a chaotic fortnight.
