BBC pundit Tom English didn’t mince his words after watching Celtic’s Europa League collapse against Roma, warning Wilfried Nancy that his current approach simply isn’t working.

The Frenchman’s second game in charge ended in a damaging 3-0 home defeat, all the goals coming in a brutal first half where Celtic looked disorganised and outmatched across the pitch.

They struggled to get out of their own half, despite Kasper Schmeichel’s many desperate punts up the park.

Taking to X during the game, English summed up the feeling among many supporters.

“Wilfried Nancy had better adapt his philosophy and soon. His system, such as it is, is getting ripped to bits tonight. Square pegs in round holes. A mortification so far.”

Nancy has opted for a back three in both of his matches, but it has produced five goals conceded, no wins, and little sign of defensive structure.

His use of players like Yang Hyun-Jun and Sebastian Tounekti in wide defensive roles has been widely questioned, while his decision not to act during a chaotic first half drew criticism. But his hands are also tied, with this Celtic squad desperately lacking quality.

English’s comments reflect growing concern about whether Nancy’s vision for the team fits the current squad.

With the League Cup Final just days away, the new manager is under pressure to show flexibility and fast.
