Wilfried Nancy’s success hasn’t just been measured in trophies. It’s in the players he’s developed and the careers he’s helped transform.
From Max Arfsten to Steven Moreira, Nancy’s track record is filled with players who have gone from fringe figures to representing their countries on the world stage. His ability to build confidence, refine talent, and create leaders has been a key part of Columbus’ rise to the top of Major League Soccer.
For Celtic, that kind of influence would be huge. The club has long relied on its ability to develop players and sell them on at the right time, but in recent years that production line has slowed. Nancy’s focus on growth and improvement could help reignite that part of Celtic’s identity.
As NBC 4 reporter Orri Benatar told CeltsAreHere, Nancy’s strength lies in seeing potential others might miss, and creating an environment where players thrive both on and off the pitch.
He said: “He really brings the best out of his players, a good example is Max Arfsten, now he’s almost a shoe-in to be on the USA roster for the World Cup next year.
“He’s turned Arfsten and Moreira not just into consistent starters, He’s turned them into World Cup players.
“Patrick Schulte, the goalkeeper, started for the US in the Olympics. Mo Farsi will be on the World Cup squad probably. Jason Russell Rowe, Canadian striker, he’s been a consistent member of the Canadian national team.
“Before Nancy came about, Columbus had one player go to the World Cup in 2022. Now there’s a real chance they could have four to six in 2026, that’s how much he’s improved this group.”
The scale of that progression speaks volumes. Nancy’s work has gone far beyond tactics, he’s changed the mentality within a dressing room, convincing players to see themselves as elite performers. It’s the kind of cultural lift Celtic have needed since Ange Postecoglou left.
What also stands out is his patience. Nancy doesn’t rush development; he builds it. That methodical approach has made him one of the most respected figures in MLS, someone players genuinely want to play for.

Moving to Celtic would test those skills in a very different environment, higher stakes, louder noise, and less time to get things right. But the principles remain the same: improve players, improve the team.
If Celtic’s board are serious about building something sustainable rather than short-term, Nancy’s track record with player development makes him one of the most intriguing names on their shortlist.

Whatever us the matter with you? What makes you post this utter horseshit? You are wilfully maligning dedicated, lifelong Celtic fans because we want to stand with oppressed people in Palestine, who are being murdered by a genocidal, apartheid ethno-state created by the British state and funded by the USA. Yet you choose to stand with our ambitionless board who consistently fail our supporters with their lack of squad investment and their betrayal of our managers, time and time again. Dermot Desmond must be proud of the level of brown nosing which you are capable of. I think you are a total disgrace.
Mr. tipped. I’ve probably read 3126 article titles of yours that state “ Celtic Tipped “. I never read the actual article because I found you out within two of them. If Jimmy in the cludgie says Messi mentioned Celtic you’d write….. Celtic TIPPED to gain Messi.
Twat.
To the commenter jack your comment is laughable in content and spelling I don’t know if you’re a troll or orc but Abada being a Jew as proven by others could have came out against the genocide and Israel is populated by more than just Jews that you should know if you are a fan Muslim players like Beram Kayal Hatem Abd Elhamed and Celtic have from their earliest days 1889 Michael Davitt and William McKillop committee members and Irish MPs so have always been politically minded the rest of your points are as easily proven wrong by the amount of supporters groups who have joined in the protests against the board so everything you have claimed isn’t only wrong but virtually the opposite of your claims
