With news breaking last night that Celtic have had a bid accepted for holding defensive midfielder Kouassi Eboue from Russia it has not escaped many supporters that we’re now very rich in central midfielders – providing this deal does go through.

Rodgers has rotated who plays in the centre of his team since coming in, with Scott Brown being a constant when available. Stuart Armstrong coming on leaps and bounds since August and a willingness to play Liam Henderson and Callum McGregor in games and of course Nir Bitton who slots into the team but the manager hasn’t fully put his faith in the Israeli.

Considering the outlay Celtic are willing to put down in order to acquire the Ivory Coast midfielder, Eboue, it’s almost certain that space will be made within the squad, not just for overcrowding but making a bit of money in the process.

The young holding midfielder Rodgers is eager to sign.

This puts Nir Bitton’s position into sharp focus, a player who isn’t seen as a regular first team starter who could fetch a decent fee in the transfer market.

There has already been talking of Spanish outfit Espanyol taking a serious look at the midfielder with others waiting to see how receptive Celtic would be to any approach for the Israeli.

Our guess is if Celtic get the Eboue deal over the line it almost certainly spells the end for the midfielder. But will he be willing to move so soon after his wife giving birth to their child? The player is under contract for another three years which could also prove a sticking point.
