Celtic winger Mikey Johnston could be in line for a return to the squad as the Hoops prepare to face Livingston away from home on Sunday.

As quoted by Sun Sport, Ange Postecoglou provided fans with an injury update and stated that the winger could make his first competitive appearance of the season after picking up an injury in pre-season against Bristol City.

Postecoglou said: “We’ll see how Callum McGregor is, but we’re optimistic he’ll be available.

“Mikey Johnston isn’t too far off, either. I’d expect him maybe to be involved on Sunday. It would be nice to be able to throw in some more attacking options and some fresh legs, which we don’t have at the moment.”

This will be a welcomed return by Postecoglou, who has very much lacked options in wide areas in recent weeks.

On Thursday, both Adam Montgomery and Joao Jota were forced to play the entire 90 minutes due to the lack of available substitutes to replace them as the game wore on and players began to tire.

Celtic fans will be hoping this is the point that Johnston’s Hoops career can kick on after being plagued by injuries so far, which hasn’t allowed him to have many consistent runs in the side.
