DEDRYK BOYATA is being prepared to replace Vincent Kompany as one of Belgium’s first choice centre-backs after the Manchester City man went off injured in a friendly versus Portugal in warm-up game for the World cup

The Celtic defender who is hoping to be included in the 23 man squad was taking nothing for granted and nor did he see Kompany’s injury as a good thing even if it does mean he’ll see more game time.

“I really hope Vincent is all right and will be fit for the World Cup .

“I’m happy enough with my own performance although there are always aspects of my game I can improve on.

“Of course it’s true that Vincent’s injury meant I got on the pitch, but I don’t want to be in a position to rely on injuries to get to Russia.

The Belgium World Cup squad gets officially announced Monday but a bedding company seems to have let the team slip with a list of players who have their personal mattress ordered for Russia – Dedryk being on that list.

If Kompany does miss the finals then Boyata will most likely replace the Premier League ace as a first team start.

A lot of people get on Boyata’s back but he has done an incredible job to get to where he’s at. He looked down and out at Celtic before Brendan Rodgers came in and only a season and a half ago we were all shocked he was given the nod to start against Albion Rovers.

Now the player will be rubbing shoulders with the best in Russia.
