In a recent update ahead of their highly anticipated event in Glasgow, WWE appears to have withdrawn a jersey from their merchandise lineup that resembled a Glasgow Rangers top.

The jersey, initially included as part of WWE’s event merchandise for the upcoming PPV in Glasgow ‘Clash at the Castle’, prompted surprise from some fans about its resemblance to the Glasgow Rangers’ kit. Glasgow’s football landscape is marked by a passionate and tumultuous rivalry. The issue was centred around WWE catering to one fanbase in Glasgow without the other when both sets attend.

The jersey was being sold on the USA version of the WWE site and would set you back 90 dollars. When you now click on the link to the item it takes you to the homepage.

Officials at WWE are so far removed from any of Glasgow’s fishbowl that they likely had no idea what they were putting out. We spoke to one source within the company who believed WWE simply thought it was a Scottish emblem and shirt. Clearly someone put the design in front of them and they initially ran with it.

Ayr born wrestler Drew McIntyre is a Rangers fan and perhaps wanted to cater to his own club. While there’s no real harm, it is a bit silly to potentially alienate half your audience who pay good money to attend live events. We still think the real crime was charging $90 for something that looks like it’s from the Barras!

With the jersey now withdrawn, WWE’s Glasgow event is set to proceed smoothly, focusing on delivering an exciting and memorable night for all attendees.

They did pick an incredibly poor time to come to Scotland with Smackdown being taped at the Hydro on the night of Scotland vs Germany. The PPV takes place the night after at the same venue.
