Celtic’s interest in Xaver Schlager has caught attention because it points toward a different type of January thinking.
Schlager is approaching the end of his contract at RB Leipzig, which has placed his future firmly in focus. At 28, he is at a point where his next move will shape the rest of his career. Clubs across Europe are watching closely, and Celtic have been named among those tracking the situation.
The Austrian international brings a profile Celtic do not often access. He has played regularly in the Bundesliga, featured in the Champions League, and operates comfortably in pressing systems. His game is based on work rate, positioning, and timing rather than flair, which fits the needs Celtic have shown in recent months.
